On a visit back to Maine in 2008, Samantha found out she was pregnant. She gave birth to a baby boy named Darren in June of that year, and the couple returned to Maine where they decided to separate. Sam moved into an apartment in Lewiston, Maine on Oxford Street, and after she got settled in she told her parents she was ready to go to rehab to get clean for her son.

The last time Samantha was heard from was on November 6th, 2011, when she arranged for a close relative to watch her son so that Sam’s parents could take her to rehab the next day. She stopped answering her phone and didn’t come to the door when her parents knocked. Finally after three days on November 9th, the apartment manager let Samantha’s parents into the apartment so they could feed her cat.

Despite it being November, her parents found several fans blowing and windows left open as well as the TV on full volume. When they opened the closet to grab the cat carrier, they found Samantha’s body. The case was quickly declared a homicide and the only two suspects, Jesse and Sam’s new boyfriend, were both in jail at the time of her murder.
