Case Profiles #1

Ronny Almonte

On August 10th, 2011 in Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln, Rhode Island, a park ranger came across a parked car that looked like it was left abandoned as it had been there for hours with the windshield wipers on. State troopers were called and when they arrived, they noticed blood seeping from the trunk of the car. Inside the trunk was 25-year-old Ronny Almonte. He had been bound and shot execution style in the back of the head. Ronny was a father and the youngest of five siblings, and his family was absolutely devastated. Authorities believe Ronny may have been murdered over drug money, but Ronny’s sisters and mother maintain that he was not involved in any criminal activity. This case is still cold, and anyone with any information on the murder of Ronny Almonte is asked to please contact the Rhode Island tip line at 1-877-RI-SOLVE.

Chansay Sayavong

On the afternoon of February 4th, 1994, 29-year-old Chansay Sayavong’s body was found floating in the frozen waves of the Narragansett Bay in Cranston, Rhode Island. A recent immigrant from Laos, Chansay left the home he shared with his brother the night before he was found, claiming he just, “needed to go out.” Before his body was discovered, his 1985 Dodge Colt was found burning a few miles from his apartment. Although the manner in which he died has still not been released to the public, the police involved say that it was very brutal. Due to the severity of his injuries, and the location of his burning car and disposed body, police speculate that there was more than 1 perpetrator involved in his death. It is also believed that Chansay was gay, which could have been a potential motive for his murder. This case remains cold to this day- if anyone has any information surrounding the murder of Chansay Sayavong, they are asked to please contact the Rhode Island Tip Line at 1-877-RI-SOLVE.
