Case Profiles #70

Terrell Oten and Keith Burney

On June 5th, 2006, good friends, Keith Burney, 19, and Terrell Oten, 21, had just stopped by a corner store to get some food in Hartford, Connecticut. While they were walking home, on Addison Street, shots rang out and both men were shot several times. Police responded quickly and were able to rush the two friends to local hospitals, where they unfortunately died a short time later of their gunshot wounds. Both men were graduates of Weaver High School and had been known as good kids who were hard working and didn’t mold to the societal issues around them. Terrell worked at Bank of America and Keith worked at Dunkin’ Donuts, where he was planning to save to go to college the following year. Keith had actually just been accepted into the Army Reserve days before he was shot and killed. Unfortunately, there was very little evidence to go off at the scene of the crime. Police have come out and said that they do not believe that the murders were gang or drug-related as the boys were not known to participate in any behavior of the like. The murders of Terrell Oten and Keith Burney remain unsolved. If you or anyone you know has any information regarding the murders of Terrell Oten and Keith Burney, please call the Connecticut Cold Case Unit at 1-866-623-8085.

Attiin Shaw

33-year-old Attiin Shaw was described as kind, passionate and a huge animal lover. She and her husband Michael, or Mike, met in December of 2011 and married in March of 2012. In 2019, Attiin, Mike and her four children, all boys, moved from Papua, Indonesia to Myanmar when Mike’s work contract as an international teacher had ended. Nervous to travel as she had never really left home, Attiin promised her family and friends she would travel back to see them. The pandemic then hit and Attiin was faced with another major change, this time moving with her husband and children all the way to Washburn, Maine. Attiin last spoke to her sister Anita in August of 2021, telling her that she was going to start looking for work and was wanting a change from other jobs she had done in the past like cleaning houses and working at a pizzeria. She was reportedly last seen on September 8th, 2021, yet her husband didn’t report her missing until the end of November.

Attiin did struggle with her mental health and bipolar disorder, and other family members backed claims that Attiin would take some space for herself for a short period of time, but she would always be active on social media and would always come home after no more than a few weeks. Her social media accounts have not been used since 2021. Friends and family reached out to Mike with their concerns over Attiin’s whereabouts, but he seemed to not be concerned and even told Attiin’s friend Beth that she was gone but he wasn’t worried. Attiin’s dad, Sulistio Wiyoto, also reached out to Mike but was brushed off as well. Sulistio devastatingly passed away in 2023 before getting any information on his daughter’s whereabouts. A former Washburn, Maine police officer had to fight for Maine State Police to take Attiin’s case seriously when other Washburn residents came to her with concerns, and she learned that there were multiple inconsistencies with Mike’s story. He told Attiin’s family that he reported her missing in October when he waited until late November, he told police Attiin was working on a cruise ship, and a community member witnessed a large, dark stain on the plywood flooring inside of the Shaw’s home.

Attiin’s family is seeking any answers, especially now that her passport has expired. At the time of her disappearance, Attiin was 4’7” and 110lbs. She has black hair and brown eyes and is Indonesian. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Attiin Shaw is asked to please call Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit at (207) 532-5400 or toll free at 1-800-924-2261.
