Case Profiles #66

Ali Kamhaz

Ali Kamhaz grew up in the country of Lebanon, where he spent a large portion of his life working hard as a farmer. In his 60’s, he immigrated to the United States after retiring and moved to Paxton, Massachusetts, with his daughter Miriam and her husband, Sam Ismail. In 2016, Ali was 88-years-old and had been diagnosed with both diabetes and dementia. He was not dependent on insulin, and he was described as being high-functioning when it came to his memory loss. On February 21st, 2016, Ali was watching TV with his son-in-law, Sam, who briefly got up and went to another room. At that time, Ali left the house and began walking down the road. When Sam realized this, he got in his car and located his father-in-law just down the road, near Route 122. Sam did not want to startle the confused man, so he parked down the road a little ways and opted to walk back to where he saw Ali. When he got to that location, Ali was gone. The elderly man has not been seen since, and his family is wondering if he got a ride from someone. Ali had walked away from home before, often going to Worcester, about eight miles away. Ali Kamhaz is described as 5’5”-6’ tall and weighed anywhere from 155-170 lbs. He had balding grey hair, a grey mustache, and brown eyes. The clothes he was last seen wearing were a blue shirt, a black hooded jacket, black pants and a beige polo hat. The shoes he was wearing are either black slip-ons or winter boots. Of note, he had a tattoo of a woman on his right forearm. Anyone who has seen or heard anything about Mr. Kamhaz should please contact the Paxton Police at (508) 791-6600. Mr. Ismail said if anyone has any information about Mr. Kamhaz, they may also contact him at (774) 641-3125.

Maria Laura Capon Bravo Rojas

Maria Laura Capon Bravo Rojas moved to the United States from Ecuador in 2001. In 2003, she moved to New Milford, Connecticut where she operated David’s Flooring with her husband, David Rojas, on Danbury Road across from New Milford High School. On September 15th, 2004, the body of 33-year-old Maria was found inside of the building of David’s Flooring. Her body was found by a delivery truck driver who was dropping off supplies to the store. Police were called early that afternoon at 12:39 p.m. Maria had sustained multiple blows to her head and shoulders from some kind of blunt object, and it was estimated that she had been killed between 10:10-11:05 a.m., 1.5-2.5 hours before her body was found. David Rojas, Maria’s husband, didn’t find out about his wife’s murder until later that same afternoon and had spoken to her around 9:00 a.m. just that morning. He had been working on a floor installation project at a Pumpkin Hill Road home when he came back to the store at around 1:00 p.m and found police cars surrounding the building and property. David was absolutely shocked and could not think of anyone who could have done this or would have wished harm on Maria. There is a $50,000 reward for anyone with any information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible. Anyone with any information on the murder of Maria Laura Capon Bravo Rojas is asked to please call the New Milford Police Department at 860-355-2000 or the Cold Case Unit at 866-623-8058. You can also send in tips to coldcase@ct.gov.
